The documentary describes and narrates the Chilean War of Independence, including the battles of Chacabuco and Maipú, in which General San Martín played a prominent role as the campaign's leader. Meanwhile, in Peru, Viceroy Pezuela attempted to organize a counterattack against the victorious Chilean patriot forces. After his forces were defeated, he focused on containing the patriots in Upper Peru and launched attacks against Argentine forces in Salta. However, as a consequence of the loss of Chile, he began to lose prestige among the Spanish officers due to the series of defeats he suffered.
